June 9 we left San Geronimo with Cathy and David and drove to Crater Lake. We had an uneventful day and an easy drive. We had reserved a room at the Crater Lake Lodge and checked in at 3:30pm. There was snow everywhere and the ride up to the Lake was spectacular! We took a nice walk all around the lodge and enjoyed the views. We found out it had snowed 6 inches this morning! It was a bit chilly to say the least so inside we went for cocktails and a warm fireplace.
We had a savory meal at the Lodge. The food is superb and we enjoyed sharing multiple appetizers. Crater Lake’s restaurant is a premier fine dining establishment. Features Northwest cuisine made with choice Oregon-grown ingredients. Sample the best of what Oregon has to offer, from the freshest, locally-grown mushrooms and berries to Rogue Valley cheeses and wines.
The Dining Room is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with seating available for 75. Reservations are required for dinner.
The next day we started with a gourmet breakfast in the dining room. The views and quiet atmosphere begin the day with a sense of tranquility and peace.
We headed to the visitor center and learned about the history of the Lake. We are blessed to have had people in the 1800’s who preserved this park for all of us to enjoy. After our visit we packed up a lunch and hiked the Rim road. We were lucky enough to walk the road without cars. The views were so awesome and we walked 8 miles round trip savoring every moment.
I highly recommend staying at the Crater Lake Lodge. It is the opportunity to turn back time, relax in the comfort of an old time lodge, listen to the quiet and reflect on nature and a special place in time we all need to experience.
